Louis van Gaal: 'Paddy McNair had cramp'

Manchester United defender Paddy McNair came off against Bournemouth because he was suffering with cramp, reveals manager Louis van Gaal.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that defender Paddy McNair suffered nothing more serious than "cramp" during the weekend's 2-1 defeat away at Bournemouth.

The Northern Ireland international was replaced by Phil Jones in stoppage time at Dean Court with what looked to be a muscular injury.

However, when asked for an update on the 20-year-old's fitness, Van Gaal did not expect him to be sidelined for any length of time.

"McNair had cramp, he hasn't played much this season - nothing serious," the United boss told reporters.

The centre-back has made eight appearances for club and country this season.
