Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Ander Herrera close to Manchester United return

Manchester United could welcome back Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera from injury after they fully took part in training this week.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera are all close to making their returns from injury after fully taking part in training this week.

The trio are three of 10 players on the United treatment table, but they could be back in the squad for tomorrow's visit of Norwich City in the Premier League.

Defender Smalling had to miss last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth, while club captain Rooney and midfielder Herrera are yet to play this month.

Van Gaal also told the club website that Jesse Lingard and Matteo Darmian remain out, while Ashley Young could be included for the Canaries' visit.

United go into the match fourth in the table, six points behind leaders Leicester City, and without a win in four games.
