The Austrian Football Association denies that they have been in contact with Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick.

The Austrian Football Association have denied that they have been in contact with Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick over a managerial role with the European country.

Rangnick will lead the Red Devils for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign before stepping aside for the arrival of a long-term replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The German is expected to remain with Man United as a consultant on a contract until June 2024, but it has been suggested that Austria are interested in him becoming their new manager.

Kurier claimed that the sporting director of the Austria national team Peter Schottel had travelled to Manchester to hold discussions with the 63-year-old.

However, the Austrian FA have issued a statement denying that Rangick has been approached.

"Clarification: There was no meeting between OFB sports director Peter Schottel and Ralf Rangnick, coach of Man Utd," the Austrian FA posted on Twitter.

Rangnick will reportedly only work for six days a month in his consultancy role at Old Trafford, and he is not believed to be involved in the club's search for a new head coach.
