Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has described his side's dramatic Premier League title defeat as "cruel".
Despite a 1-0 win at Sunderland, the Red Devils lost out to neighbours Manchester City after a last-gasp Sergio Aguero strike earned the Blues a 3-2 win over Queens Park Rangers.
The results on the final day saw City pip United to the championship on goal difference.
"It's disappointing to lose the league," Ferdinand told Sky Sports News. "It's a cruel way to have lost it, but you have to congratulate the other team.
"Any team that wins the league obviously deserves it and have played well in the season. It's about us dusting ourselves down and making sure we win the title back next season."
City's win is their first league triumph since 1968.
