Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal warns Erik ten Hag away from Old Trafford, believing the Ajax coach would be a better fit elsewhere.

Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has warned Erik ten Hag against taking the position at Old Trafford.

The current Ajax coach has been linked to the Premier League role as of late, having had conversations with the club recently about potentially replacing interim boss Ralf Rangnick for next season.

However, Van Gaal does not see the Red Devils as a good fit for him, with the Netherlands manager believing he should look for a different type of club.

"Erik ten Hag is a great coach, and that is always good for Manchester United. But Manchester United are a commercial club, so it is a difficult choice for a coach. He would better go to a football club," Van Gaal told reporters.

"I am not going to advise him, he will call me himself. But he must choose a football club and not a commercial club."

It is believed that Manchester United also want to talk with other candidates before making a firm decision, with Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui all in the running for the role.
