Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back Arsene Wenger's decision to take him off in the defeat to Manchester United.

Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has backed Arsene Wenger after the manager was criticised for substituting him against Manchester United.

The 18-year-old was replaced by Andrey Arshavin on Sunday, who was then at fault for Danny Welbeck's late winner in the 2-1 loss.

Wenger was roundly criticised by Arsenal fans for the decision, but the Frenchman has defended his decision to take off the youngster late in the game. Oxlade-Chamberlain has now come out to defend his boss, saying that he respects his decision completely.

"It was hard not to hear [the jeers for Wenger], there were a lot of fans," Oxlade-Chamberlain said.

"He's Arsène Wenger, a top-quality manager. He's done a lot for this club so whatever he does and whatever decision he makes towards me and the team, I'll have to respect and I do respect that.

"The fans pay to come and watch us so they have the right to have their own opinions and to show their frustration but all we can guarantee is that we're working very hard and we're completely focused."

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton last summer.
