Jose Pekerman backs Radamel Falcao to prove class

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman backs out-of-form Man United striker Radamel Falcao to show that he is every inch the world-class striker that many believe.

Colombia coach Jose Pekerman has no doubt that under-fire Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao will eventually prove his class at Old Trafford.

Falcao has endured a mixed spell so far following a season-long loan from AS Monaco, with manager Louis van Gaal said to be reluctant to sign him on a permanent basis.

A combination of injuries and a lack of form have seen the 28-year-old start just eight Premier League games - scoring in three of them.

However, Pekerman, who works alongside him at international level, is certain that the hitman will ultimately blossom for the Red Devils.

"It's a difficult period for him, but he's a proven player with regard to his mentality and he'll keep on working hard," he told Caracol Radio.

"I'm sure that this [difficult period] will just be temporary and he will come through it, I don't have any doubt.

"Sometimes these situations are not easy... it's a shame because he's a lad we want to be playing regularly as he's a great player, but I expect it will sort itself out soon."

Falcao has netted over 120 goals for club and country over the last four years following goal-laden spells with Porto and Atletico Madrid, along with Monaco.
