Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: 'Radamel Falcao has to prove himself'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says that Radamel Falcao has until the end of the season to "prove himself".

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested that Radamel Falcao still has a future at Old Trafford, but he must "prove himself" before the end of the season.

There have been widespread reports suggesting that United will opt against signing a permanent £43m deal for Falcao at the end of his season-long loan from Monaco.

Questions were raised when the Colombian was left out of the squad that suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford last Sunday, despite not being injured.

In today's press conference, Van Gaal said: "He has to prove himself. We have made a deal and everything is clear. It's not the end of the year so he has a chance. If a player cost £95m or £5,000 it's not any different for me. You have to prove yourself."

Recent reports have claimed that Serie A sides Juventus and Roma have contacted Falcao's representatives regarding his availability.
