Ashley Young has withdrawn from the England squad for this week's friendly against Scotland through injury.
The Manchester United winger missed Rio Ferdinand's testimonial and today's 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield with an ankle problem.
Young has now returned to Old Trafford for treatment, according to a statement from the Football Association.
"Manchester United forward Ashley Young has withdrawn from the England squad," said the governing body.
"Following discussions between England medical staff and their counterparts at the club, it was clear Young would not be ready for the match with Scotland on Wednesday."
Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson is yet to call up a replacement for Young.
