Three players Barcelona could sign this summer to boost La Liga title hopes

Sports Mole picks out three potential signings for Barcelona during this summer's transfer window.

Despite their well-documented financial problems, Barcelona are expecting to be active during this summer's transfer window, with head coach Hansi Flick looking to put together a team capable of challenging for major silverware during the 2024-25 campaign.

Real Madrid will again be La Liga title favourites next season, having boosted an already-strong squad with the acquisition of a certain Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona are bidding to bring in some eye-catching signings of their own, though, as room is expected to be made in the budget to allow them to secure some star players.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at three signings that the Catalan giants could make this summer to boost their hopes of claiming silverware in 2024-25.

Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao)

Williams is Barcelona's leading attacking target this summer, and the club are said to be in pole position for the 22-year-old despite interest from the Premier League.

The forward starred for Spain at Euro 2024, scoring twice and registering one assist in six appearances, including a goal in the final of the competition against England.

Williams entered the tournament off the back of scoring eight goals and registering 19 assists in 37 appearances for Athletic during the 2023-24 campaign.

The attacker has a €58m (£48m) release clause in his current deal at San Mames, meaning it will be a bargain deal considering his quality and potential to reach the very top.

Williams has a strong relationship with Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, and it is certainly possible that the pair will be playing on opposite wings for Flick's side next term.

Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig)

Barcelona are believed to have stepped up their interest in Olmo by placing a six-year contract on the table for the the Leipzig attacker.

Like Williams, Olmo was key for Spain at Euro 2024, scoring three goals and registering two assists in six appearances at the competition.

The €60m (£50.6m) release clause in his current deal has now expired, but it is believed that Leipzig have told Olmo that he will be allowed to leave for that amount this summer.

Barcelona are thought to be considering a deal which would see them pay the full amount over a longer period, and Olmo's arrival would be a huge boost for the Catalan giants this summer.

The 26-year-old, who represented the Catalan outfit's youth academy between 2007 and 2014, has scored 29 goals and registered 34 assists in 148 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions.

Adrien Rabiot (free agent)

Rabiot is available on a free transfer this summer, with his departure from Juventus being confirmed.

Manchester United are thought to lead the race for the France international, while Liverpool are also being strongly linked with his services, but a move to Barcelona cannot be ruled out.

The Catalan outfit are known admirers of the 29-year-old, who has scored 16 times from midfield for Juventus over the last two campaigns.

Rabiot is a five-time Ligue 1 winner, while he also secured four trophies during his time with the Old Lady, including the 2019-20 Serie A title.

Barcelona are currently focusing on deals for Williams and Olmo, but Rabiot could be the perfect midfield addition for Flick's side, as he would offer a completely different option to the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Ilkay Gundogan, Pedri and Gavi in the middle.
