Atletico Madrid reportedly have a 'verbal agreement' with Boubacar Kamara to sign the midfielder on a free transfer ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
The 22-year-old's contract with Marseille is due to expire at the end of June, and he is widely expected to leave the French club in search of pastures new.
Manchester United were strongly linked with the Frenchman in January and are still believed to be interested in the midfielder's services due to his contract situation.
However, according to FootMercato, Atletico are at the head of the queue for Kamara, having reached a 'verbal agreement' over a summer move to Wanda Metropolitano.
The report claims that the Frenchman is yet to sign a contract, so Man United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Roma and Borussia Dortmund remain in the race.
Kamara has again been an important player for his Ligue 1 club during the 2021-22 campaign, making 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.
