Manchester United have reportedly identified Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic as a potential signing.
Manager Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing in a new centre-back during the summer, but the Portuguese is expected to be active in January after failing to secure the signature of any of his targets.
According to Sky in Italy, that could lead to an approach for Milenkovic, with the 21-year-old having emerged as one of the top young players in Serie A.
The 21-year-old has helped Fiorentina to the second-best defensive record in Italy's top flight, with just 10 goals being conceded in the 12 games which have featured the former Partizan Belgrade man.
Milenkovic still has over three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, leaving United in a position where they may have to bid in the region of £50m in order to begin negotiations with the player.
United have conceded 21 goals in their 12 league games this season.
