Manchester United will reportedly make one final attempt to keep David de Gea by offering him a contract extension.
The Spanish goalkeeper is set to leave on a free transfer next summer after his proposed move to Real Madrid collapsed earlier this week due to the required paperwork not being completed on time.
Real are expected to lead the race when foreign clubs can sign him on a pre-contract agreement six months before his current deal expires.
However, as De Gea looks likely to be welcomed back into the first-team squad, United are considering offering the 24-year-old more than he was promised by Real, according to The Mirror.
The report suggests that club officials expect him to reject the offer when it is tabled in October, but believe it is worth trying to secure his services for the foreseeable future once again.
De Gea was named in United's Champions League squad on Wednesday.
