Santos manager Dorival Junior has confirmed that he is interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Schweinsteiger has been frozen out at Old Trafford by manager Jose Mourinho so far this season, spending much of the campaign training with the reserves and failing to get a single minute of action in any competition.
The 32-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from the club in January as a result of his lack of opportunities, and Dorival is eager to entice the World Cup winner to Brazil.
"My idea, and I've tried to convince the board of Santos, is that Santos need a player with worldwide recognition," he told UOL Esporte.
"We've been looking at names at European clubs who are suddenly not being used and who could fit this profile. [Bastian Schweinsteiger] fits this profile."
Reports have also surfaced suggesting that Schweinsteiger could be involved in United's Premier League clash against West Ham United this weekend, though, with the German potentially making the bench for the first time this season.
