Netherlands boss Danny Blind has criticised defender Gregory van der Wiel for conceding the decisive penalty in Thursday's 1-0 Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Iceland.
Sigurdsson stroked home on 51 minutes as the Group A leaders extended their advantage at the summit and placed the Oranje's qualification bid in doubt.
The Paris Saint-Germain full-back had fouled Brikir Bjarnason in the area, and Blind - who was taking charge of the side for the first time - says that it was poor judgement from the 27-year-old.
"This should not happen. He has the necessary experience and in such a situation needs to just to stay on his feet," the 54-year-old, who replaced Guus Hiddink in July, told reporters.
The setback leaves Blind's men third in Group A, six points behind Czech Republic and eight adrift of Iceland with three qualifiers remaining.
