Sports Mole previews Thursday's Europa League Group D clash between Newcastle United and Maritimo at St James' Park.

Newcastle United welcome Portuguese outfit Maritimo to St James' Park on Thursday knowing that three points would book their spot in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

The Magpies currently occupy top spot in Group D with eight points from their four matches, while Maritimo sit bottom with just two points.

The away side could yet make the next round of the competition, but would need to win both of their remaining fixtures and hope that other results go their way.

Both sides enter the match struggling for form, however, with Newcastle managing just one win from their last five games in all competitions. Meanwhile, Maritimo have not been victorious in any of their last five.

Newcastle are expected to ring the changes for the European meeting with Sammy and Shola Ameobi expected to lead their line. Meanwhile, the away side have no fresh injury concerns and should name their strongest side.

Recent form:

Newcastle United: WDDLL

Maritimo: DLLLD

Possible lineups:

Newcastle United: Harper; Perch, Williamson, Taylor, Ferguson; Marveaux, Vuckic, Anita, Ben Arfa; Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi

Maritimo: Salin; Olim, Rozario, Briguel, Ferreira; Miranda, Luiz, Semedo, Simao; Heldon, Fidelis

Sports Mole says: 2-0
