Newcastle United pair Florian Lejeune, Paul Dummett out for "number of weeks"

Newcastle United confirm that Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett will be out for a "number of weeks" after suffering injuries against Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle United have confirmed that Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett will be on the sidelines for a "number of weeks" after suffering injuries on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Dummett lasted just seven minutes as he was forced off with a hamstring injury, while debutant Lejeune suffered ankle ligament damage after being tackled by Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.

It was a disappointing match for Rafael Benitez and his team, as they lost 2-0 at St James' Park and Jonjo Shelvey was sent off for stamping on Dele Alli.

With regards to the injured pair, Newcastle released a statement, which read: "Assessments by the club's medical staff are continuing in order to establish the full extent of their injuries but both players are expected to be out for weeks, rather than months."

The Magpies' next league game will be against fellow promoted side Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
