Alan Shearer hopes Newcastle board will allow Rafael Benitez to manage his way

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is hopeful that the board will allow new manager Rafael Benitez to take charge of the team in his own way.

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has called on the board to allow new boss Rafael Benitez to manage in his own way.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager was appointed on a three-year deal a few hours after Steve McClaren was sacked.

The Magpies are currently second from bottom in the Premier League table, one point from safety with 10 games left to play.

After Newcastle announced the news, Shearer tweeted: "Exciting appointment for @NUFC What a coup! Let's just hope Rafa is allowed to do what he needs to do-manage!"

Reports have claimed that Benitez has a get-out clause, which will allow him to leave the club if they get relegated to the Championship.
