Shola Ameobi joins Turkish second division team

Former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi pens a one-year deal with Turkish second division side Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor.

Former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has joined Turkish second division side Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor on a one-year deal.

The Nigeria international, 32, left the Magpies earlier this summer following a 19-year association with the club.

"We want to establish an ambitious team in the league this season, and a strong team continues to strengthen by adding players," read a statement on Gaziantep's official website.

"We have therefore tied Nigerian striker Shola Ameobi - from one of the strongest teams in England, Newcastle United - to us for one year."

Ameobi scored 53 goals in 312 appearances during his time with Newcastle.
