Martin Dubravka: New Newcastle United deal is "close"

Martin Dubravka reveals that he is "close" to signing a new contract with Newcastle United.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has revealed that he is "close" to signing a new contract with the Magpies.

The 30-year-old joined Newcastle on a permanent deal in the summer of 2018 having impressed on loan at St James' Park in the second half of the 2017-18 campaign.

Dubravka still has three years left to run on his current contract but will reportedly be awarded a pay rise for his impressive form over the last 12 months.

"We're in talks. I'm close. We are in contact and hopefully we can sort it out as soon as possible," Sky Sports News quotes Dubravka as saying.

"I'm happy here so if I can stay longer here, I will be happy. Since I came here, people have treated me really well. I can say that I feel at home here. I'm glad that people think that I can stay here for the longer-term. It's such a big honour for me."

The Slovakia international has kept 16 clean sheets in 55 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions.
