Nottingham Forest recorded a valuable 2-0 win over Coventry City in a Championship basement battle today.
Neither side could take control much of the first half. Gary McSheffrey twice got into a good position for the visitors but couldn't really test Lee Camp in the Forest goal, and the game drifted out into half time after barren first half.
Forest began the second half better, and struck the post in the opening minutes when the ball seemed to hit substitute Dexter Blackstock as he was challenging the goalkeeper.
Gary Deegan then came close to breaking the deadlock when his shot fizzed just wide of the post.
Both sides looked much more likely to score in the second half, and Forest had the best chance of the game when Andy Reid flicked on Garath McCleary's low drive, only to be denied by an incredible save by Joe Murphy.
Robbie Findley then had a penalty shout turned down for the home side, but their complaints were short-lived, as they finally broke the deadlock one minute later.
McCleary went on a mazy run before finding some space and firing the ball into the bottom corner to give Forest the lead.
The home side secured the three points a few minutes later when Reid's cross found Findley, who chested the ball down before sliding it under the goalkeeper.
