Burton Albion defeat Oxford United 2-1 in today's League Two game at the Kassam Stadium.

Burton Albion have defeated Oxford United 2-1 in today's League Two game at the Kassam Stadium.

With the match just 10 minutes old, Zeli Ismail picked up the ball on the halfway line and, after a foray into the opposition half, slipped it through for Dominic Knowles, who proceeded to round goalkeeper Ryan Clarke and fire home.

Midway through the first half, the Albanian-born 20-year-old turned goalscorer when he followed up Jimmy Phillips's shot to double his side's lead with a thumping drive.

Phillips was involved two minutes later after he was tripped in the box by David Hunt, but Billy Kee's subsequent penalty was saved by Clarke to his left.

Oxford started the second half with intent, and soon enough, David Connolly was able to get two chances in after just five minutes played, but the away side were able to clear the danger.

A few minutes later, the hosts managed to halve the deficit when Connolly played the ball through to Ryan Williams, who made no mistake from close range.

The final stages of the contest saw the U's laying siege to the Burton goal in a desperate bid to get an equaliser, but they couldn't find a way through.
