Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss Terry Butcher says that the loss of Glasgow Rangers would be a "disaster" for the Scottish Premier League.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss Terry Butcher has said that the loss of Glasgow Rangers would be a "disaster" for the Scottish Premier League.

The Ibrox club's future remains uncertain with administrators yet to secure a buyer, and the threat of sanctions looming over them.

Butcher, who spent four years with Rangers as a player, said that their exclusion from the top fight would have a knock-on effect on all other clubs in the league.

"From our point of view, it would be a disaster if Rangers were not in the SPL," Butcher told BBC Sport.

"We need the Old Firm in the SPL for us to survive, like all the other clubs."

The former England captain went on to express concerns that his budget at Cally could be cut if Rangers are excluded.

"I've been given a budget on the proviso that Rangers will be in the SPL and I'm sure that's the case at most clubs," he added.

"If the situation changes then you're looking at clubs having to cut their cloth accordingly - and that's cutting a lot of cloth.

"TV companies would pull out, sponsorship as well, so our budget would change."
