SFL clubs to decide Rangers fate next week

Scottsh Football League clubs will meet next Friday to vote on whether to accept newco Rangers into the league.

Scottish Football League clubs will meet on Friday, July 13 to decide upon the future of Rangers.

The Ibrox club have been refused entry into the Scottish Premier League following their financial woes, and are now hopeful of a place in a lower division.

The most likely decision appears to be Rangers being put into the first division, but they could be forced to start again as low as the third division if the SFL clubs vote that way.

SFL chief executive David Longmuir has asked for the 30 clubs to be allowed to make their decision without outside influence after SFA chief executive Stewart Regan warned against demoting the Glasgow club to the bottom tier.

"The time has come for all outside influences and pressures to stop," said Longmuir.

"So I ask all other bodies to leave it to those who have been put in this invidious position to make a decision in the best possible interests of the game.

"I have every faith in the judgment of those clubs and their boards to make a decision, considered and reasoned, which will be in the best interests of the game, how it's structured, how it's governed and how it's financed."

Rangers have already suffered a number of blows in their bid to bounce back via a newco club, with several first-team players refusing to transfer their contracts.
