Zinedine Zidane has said that Gianluigi Buffon may yet decide to play on for another season after being dismissed in Juventus's dramatic defeat to Real Madrid.
The Italian goalkeeping legend has previously suggested that he will bow out at the end of 2017-18 following an illustrious career spanning 23 years.
If that remains the case, the lasting image of Buffon's final Champions League match will be his reaction to Michael Oliver's late decision to award Madrid a penalty, earning him a straight red card.
Zidane, who was sent off in his final match as a professional, believes that the veteran may now be tempted to prolong his career.
"I don't think that he deserves to go out in this way, but there's no going back on it now," he told reporters at his post-match presser. "What happened at the end of the game won't change or take anything away from what he has done in the game.
"He's a magnificent player and this perhaps wasn't his last Champions League appearance."
Cristiano Ronaldo converted the 98th-minute penalty to earn Madrid a 4-3 aggregate victory.
