Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez expects Gareth Bale to miss two to three weeks

Rafael Benitez claims that Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is likely to be sidelined for around two to three weeks with a calf injury.

Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez has revealed that Gareth Bale is likely to be sidelined for two to three weeks with a calf injury.

The Wales international was struck by the problem during Madrid's 4-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Bale is expected to play a starring role in Wales's crucial Euro 2016 qualifiers next month, and while Benitez is "optimistic", he is unsure when his player will return to full fitness.

"It is a small injury and it appears he recovers quickly," Benitez told reporters in today's press conference. "We are optimistic.

"If the player is fit to go with the national team there is little you can do apart from the normal conversations with the national team managers. The most important thing is that Gareth recovers as quickly as possible."

Bale has scored six of Wales's nine goals in their qualifying campaign.
