English clubs 'cannot afford Gareth Bale'

Real Madrid's Gareth Bale will not be heading to the Premier League this summer as English clubs cannot afford him, according to a report.

Gareth Bale will reportedly not be heading to the Premier League this summer as English clubs cannot afford him.

Bale - a 2013 arrival from Tottenham Hotspur - has scored 101 goals in 222 appearances for Real Madrid, helping them win one La Liga, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League crowns.

The 29-year-old has managed 13 goals in all competitions this season but has struggled for starts in recent months and is believed to be unsettled in the Spanish capital.

The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Welshman, but according to The Sun, Premier League clubs would not be able to pay his £150m transfer fee as well as meeting his £650,000-a-week wages.

Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, has launched a defence of his client following Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Barcelona on Saturday night, which led to the attacker being booed by his club's own fans.
