Real Sociedad hosted Lyon on Wednesday night and were looking to secure their place in the Champions League group stages.

The La Liga outfit took a 2-0 first-leg win at the Stade de Gerland into the match with Les Gones forced to try to overturn two away goals.

However, Sociedad managed to pick up the win at the Anoeta and progress into the next round.

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage from the Jagoba Arrasate where Real Sociedad host Lyon in the second leg of their Champions League qualifying bout.

The feeling going into this match is that Sociedad already have one foot in the next round after their impressive 2-0 win at the Stade de Gerland last week.

Goals from Antoine Griezmann and Haris Seferovic mean that Lyon will have to pull off a miracle if they are to return to the group stages of Europe's elite competition.

Remi Garde's side also had Milan Bisevac sent off just to add to the mountain of a challenge that Les Gones face tonight.

History doesn't look promising for Lyon either as the French outfit have never won a European tie after losing the first leg at home and, in all European knockout ties since 1970, only 3% of teams have qualified after losing 2-0 on their own turf in the first leg.

Lyon themselves are also looking to end a two-year absence from the Champions League, which is a competition that they have proved to be fairly competitive in the past.

They will be hoping that Sociedad's lack of Champions League experience will play into their hands this evening. Should Lyon get the first goal of the night then we will have a very interesting finish to the tie ahead of us.

The early news as far as team selection is that Sociedad are without Carlos Martinez, Jose Angel and Imanol Agirretxe. Dani Estrada is likely to come in at right back for the La Liga side, while Griezmann, who was rejected by Lyon as a youngster, is likely to start having missed the weekend's action.

Lyon will be without suspended defender Bisevic, but other than that, Remi Garde has a near full squad to choose from.

Full team news on the way shortly.

REAL SOCIEDAD XI: Bravo, Estrada I.Martinez, Ansotegui, De La Bella, Bergara, Zurutuza, X.Prieto, Griezmann, Vela, Seferovic

LYON XI: Lopes, Bedimo, Miguel Lopes, Fofana, Kone, Umititi, Gonalons, Grenier, Gourcuff, Benzia, Lacazette

Neither side come into this match in particularly great form. Sociedad came from behind to draw with newly-promoted Elche on Saturday, while Lyon endured a shock home loss to Reims to cap a poor week for them.

This is what both managers have had to say coming into this match, starting with Real Sociedad's Jagoba Arrasate.

JAGOBA ARRASATE: "We will approach the game in the same way we approached the first leg, looking to win.

"If we score an early goal it could be a massive blow to the opposition, but we are not thinking about that, just about playing as we did in the first leg."

And now for Lyon boss Remi Garde.

REMI GARDE: "We came up against a really good team in the first leg, but I don't really know what Real will do [on Wednesday). What I do know is that my team will have to play much better and I know we are capable of doing that.

"We were battered and bruised at home and I think that my team are better, individually and collectively, than what they produced in that game. I don’t need to convince them of that. The defeat against Reims was also unfortunate, but we need to separate the two competitions. We have proved since the beginning of the season that we have a quality squad, capable of winning away from home."

Let's bring you the two substitute benches then.

SOCIEDAD BENCH: Zubikarai, Cadamuro, Urkola, Pardo, Castro, Ros, Granero

LYON BENCH Gorgelin, Ferri, Malbranque, Plea, Mvuemba, Bahlouli, Fekir

We're less than 10 minutes away from kick off and the atmosphere is building at the Anoeta.

The two teams are lining up ready in the tunnel.

Sociedad are wearing their white and blue striped shirts with white shorts and socks, while Lyon are donning their away kit which is red shirts, red shorts and reds socks with a navy strip across the top of the shirt.

And out come the two sides to a huge noise at the Anoeta.

The scene it set, and we are just moments away from kick off.
Lyon have to go for it, and Sociedad are on the very of the promise land. What a game we should have on our hands.

KICK OFF! Lyon get us underway and shoot from left to right in this first half.

CHANCE! Lyon have started on the front foot and Fofana has the first effort on goal from just outside the box. However, his low drive takes a deflection and heads out for a corner.

Nothing comes from the corner for Lyon, but they are camping in the Sociedad half at the moment.

I'm not sure if the home side have touched the ball yet. It's been all Lyon, and Sociedad don't seem to bothered about winning the ball back. After all, they're in the driving seat.

Lyon trying to force their way into the penalty area, but the Sociedad backline are standing strong for now. Terrific noise from the crowd.

CLOSE! It's Lyon again, and a cross from the left from Gourcuff nearly finds Benzia unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box. He isn't able to make contact with the ball, but it nearly curls into the far corner anyway. Close shave for Sociedad.

Sociedad have a free kick from 30 yards out, but it is blasted off the top of the wall by Griezmann and out for a corner.

Very nearly the opener from Sociedad there as the corner beats everyone and somehow manages to end up untouched on the far side.

CHANCE! What a waste that was. Zurutuza beautifully slots in Griezmann, who is one on one with Lopes. It's the perfect opportunity to put the tie to bed, but as the keeper comes out, Griezmann opts to go for a cocky chip which lands straight in the arms of Lopes. That's really poor from Griezmann and that should have put Sociedad into the group stages.

Lyon have a free kick in a good position here. 25 yards out slight right of centre, Grenier over it. Most people forward.

Grenier opted to at him himself but put the ball wide of the near post. Having missed a decisive penalty at the weekend, Grenier really needs to make it up to the side and have a good game tonight.

It's been a good start to the game. Very clear that Lyon are going for all-out attack while Sociedad are prepared to try to him them on the break. Entertaining and frantic stuff so far.

Sociedad are starting to come more into the game now and venture forward. A goal from them will effectively kill this tie you would have thought.

BLOCK! What a vital block that was Umtiti. Vela beats the offside trap on the left and lofts a good cross towards the far side of the box. Seferovic is there with the header and it's heading for the back of the net, but Umtiti is on hand to make a crucial block and deny the chance.

Brilliant free kick from the touchline whipped in by Griezmann. A pile of bodies flies towards the ball but it goes out for a corner after Fofana go the final touch.

Sociedad are on top at the moment. No real chances in the past five minutes, but the home side are enjoying a lot more possession than they previously were.

CHANCE! Sociedad are a whisker away from going in front from the corner. Griezmann takes it out on the left and pulls it back to the edge of the box where Vela is waiting. He meets the ball with a low effort which rockets through a crowd of bodies but flies just wide of the near post. Closest we've come yet.

CHANCE! It's all Real at the moment and Griezmann forces a save from Lopes. He brings the ball down very well in the box with his back to go, and after a kick-up hits the ball on the spin from the penalty spot. Lopes gets equal to it though to deny the former Lyon man.

Lyon are starting to come forward again now, and Lacazette nearly finds room to shoot in the box but he is thwarted by the defender.

PENALTY SHOUT! Everyone is the stadium is convinced that Sociedad are going to be awarded a spot kick. Vela goes into the box on the right and goes down after a coming together with Kone. It looks a clear penalty, but Vela is booked for diving.

SAVE! Again it's Sociedad that come close as Carlos Vela is threaded through to the edge of the box. He's under pressure from Umtiti, but he sees Lopes rushing out and tries to loft it over his head. It's not a bad effort and Lopes is forced to push it behind for a corner.

Sociedad don't have many players committed forward, but they do have pace in the form of Vela and Griezmann.

Lacazette is bundled over in the box for Lyon, but only gets a corner. Decent defending from the hosts.

CHANCE! Bergara has an effort from all of 30 yards on the half volley and it's a decent hit. However it just flies wide.

We'll have one extra minute in this first half.

Gourcuff's shot is deflected and loops over the goal for a corner, nothing comes from it though.

HALF TIME: Real Sociedad 0-0 Lyon

A decent half of football from both sides. Lyon started on top and had a few chances, but Sociedad finished the half stronger. As things stand, the Spaniard's are on their way through.

Lyon look as if they're going to make a change at the break.

LYON CHANGE Nabil Fekir has come on at half time in place of Yassine Benzia.

KICK OFF! Real Sociedad get us back underway.

SAVE! Fekir, who has just come on, shows good skill and trickery to maneuver his way down the right side of the box but is taken to the byline by Martinez and wins a corner.

OFF THE POST! Sociedad nearly wrap up the tie on the break. Vela plays a little ball into the right side of the box to Seferovic. The striker brings the ball inside and thumps it with his left boot, but can only watch as the ball cannons off the near post.

OFF THE POST! Sociedad nearly wrap up the tie on the break. Vela plays a little ball into the right side of the box to Seferovic. The striker brings the ball inside and thumps it with his left boot, but can only watch as the ball cannons off the near post.

CHANCE! Grenier goes close with a free kick but it's just over the bar.

Sociedad on the attack again and playing some lovely close control football, a low cross is swung into the box and Lyon scramble it behind for a corner, before dealing with the pressure.

CLOSE! How many more chances with Sociedad squander? They hit Lyon on the break once again as Griezmann races away from the backline. He then squares it from the right of the box to the unmarked Seferovic, who can only place his shot wide of the far post. Sociedad should be ahead by now.

Sociedad should really have wrapped this game up by now but, barring a miracle, they look to be heading through to the group stages of the Champions League.

The game has come to a halt for the past few moments as Xabi Prieto is down holding his face.

The game is back underway as Prieto is up once more. This match has hit a bit of a lull.

SAVE! Seferovic is causing havoc again in the Lyon box and is played in by a brilliant Carlos Vela pass. He is on the right of the box and tries to curl his effort across goal but it is well saved by Lopes.

GOAL! Real Sociedad 1-0 Lyon (Carlos Vela)

At last the breakthrough! And Carlos Vela has put Real Sociedad in the next round. Griezmann whips in the corner from the right and Vela, unmarked, meets it with a header on the edge of the six-yard box. All over now.

SOCIEDAD CHANGE Griezmann is heading off to a wonderful reception and is placed by Esteban Granero, who is on loan at the club from Queens Park Rangers.

Lyon look deflated and beaten, but they have to go for it now. I imagine their shape will lose its form over the next 15 minutes or so.

Lyon try to press, Lopes forced into a sweeper role when they lose the ball. Grenier and Lacaz being sat on proper in the centre.

LYON CHANGE Fares Bahlouli comes on for Remi Garde's side in place of Yoann Gourcuff.

SOCIEDAD CHANGE The captain Xabi Prieto is making way for Chori Castro.

The game is ultimately dead now, both sides seem to have accepted the pending outcome of this match.

Lyon don't even seem too bothered about chasing down the ball. Sociedad controlling the possession at the moment.

Seferovic very nearly brings the ball down in the penalty area following a good cross from the right, but the forward is flagged offside.

SOCIEDAD CHANGE Markel Bergara is the final change of the evening for the La Liga side. Gorka Elustondo comes on for the final minutes of this match.

LYON CHANGE Final swap for the French outfit as well as Jordan Ferri comes on in place of Maxime Gonalons.

Lyon are starting to press, but Sociedad have too many men back for Les Gones to find a way through.

We'll have two minutes of added time at the end of this match.

GOAL! Real Sociedad 2-0 Lyon (Carlos Vela)

If you had any doubts before, it's all over now. Former Arsenal man Carlos Vela gets his second goal of the night to send Lyon out.

FULL TIME: Real Sociedad 2-0 Lyon

Well that's it and Real Sociedad deservedly head into the Champions League group stages. Lyon, for the third year running, miss out on the honour.

That's it from me, I hope you enjoyed the match. Until next time, it's goodbye.
