San Jose Earthquakes 1-1 Columbus Crew

San Jose Earthquakes fail to go top of the Western Conference and rely on a last-minute equaliser from Alan Gordon to claim a draw against Columbus Crew.

A last-gasp equaliser from Alan Gordon denied Columbus Crew a shock win against San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Earthquakes dominated the match - with eight shots on target compared to their opponent's one - but they fell behind in first-half stoppage time to a Justin Meram thunderbolt.

The hosts, who would have gone top of the Western Conference with a win, created a host of chances after the break but their forwards were continually denied by the inspired Columbus goalkeeper Jon Busch.

The 35-year-old keeper was finally beaten in the first minute of stoppage time as, moments after he had struck the crossbar from similar range, Gordon unleashed an unstoppable low shot from just inside the penalty area.
