What began as push for the Premier League title, ended in a fight to remain in the top four for Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs eventually claimed fourth spot on the final day, although they are left to sweat on Champions League football because Chelsea can claim that spot with victory over Bayern Munich next week.
Here, Sports Mole reviews Spurs' up-and-down campaign under Harry Redknapp.
August
The opening month of the season was one to forget for Spurs supporters.
Manchester United defeated Tottenham 3-0 at Old Trafford, before Manchester City struck five at White Hart Lane.
September
Three Premier League fixtures in September and three wins to put an end to the misery that Spurs suffered at the hands of the Manchester clubs.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Liverpool and Wigan Athletic were all beaten by the Whites.
Cup competitions did not prove to be as profitable, with a win and a draw in the Europa League, while Stoke knocked Spurs out of the Carling Cup on penalties.
October
A win over rivals Arsenal was the highlight of October, with a long range strike from Kyle Walker the biggest talking point.
There were also wins over Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers as Spurs began to elevate themselves up the table.
A Europa League win over Rubin Kazan also boosted the club's chances in Europe.
November
Three out of three in the Premier League once again for Spurs in November as Fulham, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion were all put the sword.
Meanwhile, Europa League defeats to Rubin and PAOK Salonika all but ended their chances of progressing to the knockout stages.
December
Wins over Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland and Norwich City dragged Spurs into the title race over the Christmas period.
Draws from tough encounters with Swansea City and Chelsea also proved profitable.
January
West Brom, Everton and Wigan were all defeated in January to keep Tottenham's title charge on track as 2012 came around.
However, that challenge was derailed courtesy of 3-2 loss at fellow challengers Man City, who won the match thanks to a late penalty from Mario Balotelli.
No such problems in the FA Cup, as both Cheltenham and Watford were knocked out.
February
February saw Fabio Capello resign as England manager, resulting in Redknapp being heavily linked with the vacancy.
It didn't seem to bother the Spurs squad initially as they defeated Newcastle 5-0.
However, a 0-0 draw with League One side Stevenage and a 5-2 loss at rivals Arsenal led many to question how much all the speculation was troubling the Spurs players.
March
Those reports intensified in March as Spurs failed to win a single Premier League match.
Man United and Everton both claimed victories at Tottenham's expense, while Stoke and Chelsea both claimed draws.
The FA Cup continued to prove a welcome distraction, as wins over Stevenage and Bolton saw the club reach the semi-finals.
April
Spurs lost that semi-final 5-1 to London rivals Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.
Also, their league form continued to be inconsistent. The most notable result was a 2-1 loss at home to Norwich City which left Redknapp and Tottenham sweating on a Champions League slot.
May
Those worries subsided in May though as Spurs defeated Bolton and Fulham, as well as claiming 1-1 draw against Villa on the final day to seal fourth spot.
