Mauricio Pochettino prepared to wait for Erik Lamela quality

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino stresses that Erik Lamela must be given time before he can produce "big performances".

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is confident that Erik Lamela can enjoy a glittering career at White Hart Lane providing that he is allowed time to adapt.

The Argentine endured a largely anonymous first year in English football following a record-breaking £30m move from Roma, making just three Premier League starts.

However, the 22-year-old showed glimpses of his talent in Spurs' pre-season campaign, and Pochettino says that time will prove that the winger is capable of producing "big performances".

"Everyone expects a big performance from Erik Lamela," he told Sky Sports News. "He needs time. I expect from all, not only from Lamela, to show their ability."

The Lilywhites begin their 2014-15 campaign by facing West Ham United at Upton Park on August 16.
