Jan Vertonghen admits that Tottenham Hotspur are aiming for higher than a fourth-placed finish in the league this season.

Jan Vertonghen has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are aiming for higher than a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League this season.

Spurs are currently one point behind third-placed Chelsea following Sunday's 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion.

"We will be happy with fourth place but we're only one point behind Chelsea, so we have to aim as high as possible," Vertonghen told reporters.

"We have a home game against Newcastle on Saturday, so why not? I've played against all the biggest teams in the League and we can beat anybody."

Vertonghen has scored two goals in 31 appearances for Tottenham this season.
