Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic plays down the recent speculation surrounding Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane.

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted that there is "nothing" to the current speculation surrounding a possible move for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

The German champions have allegedly identified the 28-year-old as a leading transfer target, with the club said to view him as the ideal player to replace Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona earlier this summer.

Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann refused to rule out a move for the England captain when questioned on the reported interest ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

"He's very expensive that's the problem - but brilliant player, one of two or three who can play as a centre forward [as well as a] No 10, but he's very strong, brilliant with [his] head and both feet," Nagelsmann told reporters.

"He could score a lot in the Bundesliga, I don't know the price, but it's really tough for Bayern Munich. We'll see what happens in the future."

Meanwhile, a recent report claimed that Bayern were hopeful that Kane would not sign a new deal at Tottenham, as they prepare a big-money offer during next summer's transfer window.

Bayern CEO Oliver Khan also said in July that a move for the striker would be "a dream".

"He's under contract with Tottenham. Sure, an absolute top striker, but that's all a dream of the future," the former goalkeeper told Bild at the time.

However, amid the current speculation, Salihamidzic has called for calm and insisted that "there's nothing to it".

"I don't think Oliver Kahn is forcing a move for Kane. You can all go down a gear. There's nothing to it," Salihamidzic told reporters when questioned on the centre-forward.

Kane's current contract with Spurs is due to expire in June 2024, and his North London club are said to be keen to open talks over a possible extension as soon as possible.

The Englishman came close to joining Manchester City ahead of the 2021-22 campaign, but the Citizens ultimately could not come to an agreement with Tottenham over a transfer fee.

Kane went on to score 27 goals and register 10 assists in 50 appearances for Spurs in all competitions, while he has also been in impressive form this term, netting five times in six Premier League appearances.

The striker has now registered 253 goals and 59 assists in 392 appearances for Tottenham, including 188 Premier League goals, placing him third on the all-time list behind Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208).

Kane recently moved past Sergio Aguero (184) and Andy Cole (187) to place himself in the top three.
