England captain Harry Kane has to leave Tottenham Hotspur in order to win trophies, according to pundit Rio Ferdinand.

Former Manchester United captain Rio Ferdinand has urged Harry Kane to leave Tottenham Hotspur in the near future if he wants to end his career with a series of trophies.

Kane has scored 171 goals in 262 appearances for Spurs in all competitions, but the 26-year-old is yet to win a single trophy during his time in the first team.

Mauricio Pochettino's side are already out of this season's EFL Cup, while they sit 10 points off Premier League leaders Liverpool in the early stages of the 2019-20 campaign.

Ferdinand has warned Kane that there is only "a small window of opportunity" to win trophies and has questioned whether the centre-forward will be able to secure silverware at his current club.

"It leads me to look at Harry Kane. What are you in the game for? Are you in the game to be a one club man or to win trophies? Do Spurs look like a team capable of winning trophies?" Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"I don't think so. They were a better team a couple of years ago. Leeds [United] is a similar example, I was maybe a year or two younger but I was in a team at a Champions League semi-final, nearly won the league, but I thought I had a better chance elsewhere and I had the opportunity to go. I made a very quick decision to go and win trophies.

"Harry Kane is probably thinking about it and having those questions. They need answering soon. He's 26 and you only have a small window of opportunity, they come and go very quickly."

Tottenham have been left with just one point from their two Champions League games thus far following a 7-2 home defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
