Harry Redknapp: 'Queens Park Rangers wanted Jermain Defoe, Fabio Borini'

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp says that Jermain Defoe wanted to "return home" but Toronto FC refused to budge on an offer.

Harry Redknapp has revealed that Queens Park Rangers have missed out on deals to sign Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe.

Toronto FC's Defoe was said to be the subject of numerous bids, and despite Redknapp claiming that the striker "wanted to come home", the MLS outfit refused to budge.

However, the Hoops manager did confirm that a deal to sign Sandro from Tottenham Hotspur has been completed.

"We have got Sandro from Tottenham," the 67-year-old told BBC Sport. "We tried to get one or two others and made a big effort to get Jermain Defoe.

"He wanted to come home but there was no way Toronto would release him before their playoffs. We also wanted Fabio Borini but his wage demands were way out of our league."

It also emerged earlier tonight that Niko Kranjcar was closing in on a move to QPR after being spotted at the club's West London training ground.

"Niko Kranjcar has dropped a third of his wages to come back here and play," Redknapp continued. "I like the look of us now and I think we've got a real chances of staying in this division."

The R's are currently 12th in the Premier League table, having picked up their first victory of the season on the weekend.
