Andre Villas-Boas: 'Gareth Bale contract talks are ongoing'

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas reveals that the club are currently speaking to midfielder Gareth Bale regarding a new contract.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted that he is confident that winger Gareth Bale will sign a new contract at White Hart Lane.

Bale penned a new deal during last season, but after the Welsh international was heavily linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, Villas-Boas has admitted that the club want the 23-year-old to extend his stay in North London.

The 35-year-old told reporters: "Talks are ongoing, but that doesn't mean that there has been an agreement.

"At the moment, we are confident. The player is under contract, and a very good contract that was sorted last year.

"It is something that we are speaking about, but there hasn't been any further development."

Bale netted 26 goals in 44 appearances for Spurs last season.
