Stuttgart held to draw

Stuttgart and Werder Bremen draw 1-1 in the Bundesliga.

Stuttgart have been held to a 1-1 draw by Werder Bremen at home in the Bundesliga.

The hosts started very strongly and nearly went ahead in the fifth minute, but Vedad Ibisevic's difficult shot from an acute angle was saved.

Martin Harnik justified his return to the starting lineup with a goal after just six minutes. He opened the scoring from close range following a headed pass by Daniel Schwaab.

Nils Petersen put a shot wide as Werder pushed for an equaliser and he did have his goal with just over five minutes of the first half to play.

The striker was in the right place at the right time to convert Zlatko Junuzovic's low cross and level the scores.

In the second half Ibisevic might have done better with his header from a Christian Gentner corner, but he only managed to pick out Sebastian Mielitz.

However, the points were to be shared as neither side could find the net for the winner.
