Former Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland midfielder Steed Malbranque has retired from professional football to care for his sick son, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
The midfielder left Sunderland in the summer to return to his homeland with Saint-Etienne, but reports in France have suggested that he has called time on his career after making one substitute appearance.
The 31-year-old made over 300 appearances in the Premier League during a ten-year spell in England.
