It was Sweden that made the brighter start to proceedings and Lustig headed just over the Wales crossbar from a corner as the first half-chance arrived in the fifth minute of action.

Aaron Ramsey looked the player most likely to make something happen for Wales during a tight opening 20 minutes, but opportunities were few and far between as the returning Gareth Bale waited on the bench.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck one from outside the box in the 21st minute as Sweden had another half-chance to make the breakthrough, but the skipper's effort was always moving wide of Wayne Hennessey's post.

Sweden did make the breakthrough five minutes before the end of the first period, however, when Ibrahimovic evaded the challenge of Ashley Williams before setting up Forsberg, who drilled his effort into the bottom corner from distance.

Marcus Berg came close to sending Sweden 2-0 ahead early in the second period when he lifted the ball over the onrushing Danny Ward, but James Chester was back to clear off the line.

Wales continued to struggle as the second period progressed and they conceded a second just before the hour when Lustig fired home from close range after Ward had kept out two efforts in quick succession.

Bale's introduction in the second period boosted Wales and the Real Madrid attacker found space down the left after a smart pass from Ramsey 20 minutes from time, but Erik Johansson was on hand to block.

Simon Church had the chance to register for Wales five minutes from time after Bale found his teammate inside the box, but the striker could only lift his effort over the crossbar from close range.

There was time for Sweden to score a third, however, as substitute Guidetti registered late on to make it a rotten afternoon for Chris Coleman's side.

Sweden open their Euro 2016 Group E campaign against Republic of Ireland on June 13, while Wales will take on Slovakia in Group B on June 11.
