Chris Brunt closing in on return to action for West Bromwich Albion

West Bromwich Albion confirm that Chris Brunt is back in training following a six-month absence with a knee injury.

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that Chris Brunt is edging closer to making a return to the pitch following a six-month injury layoff.

The 31-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in February during a Premier League match against Crystal Palace.

There is no specific date pencilled in for Brunt's return, but the Baggies' director of performance Dr Mark Gillett has confirmed that the midfielder is now taking part in training.

"Chris is making good progress," Dr Gillett told the club's official website. "He's doing well and now back in training. Obviously, we need to balance that with the fact that he has been out for the last six months.

"We will make sure he is carefully managed over the next few weeks. I think Chris has shown a lot of character throughout his recovery. That was a big disappointment and while the tournament was on he has worked all through the summer.

"But it does mean he is really looking forward to first team football again just as much as we are looking forward to having him available again."

Brunt has been a West Brom player since 2007 following his move from Sheffield Wednesday.
