West Ham United reportedly remain in talks with Celta Vigo over a deal for Maxi Gomez.
The Uruguayan striker had been the Hammers' top target this month as they looked for a replacement for Marko Arnautovic, who was attempting to force through a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.
After that deal turned sour, Arnautovic signed a new contract with the club, leaving their pursuit of Gomez in limbo.
Manuel Pellegrini's side have indicated that they are still keen to meet Gomez's £45m release clause, however, and according to Sky Sports News, they are back in talks with Celta over a deal that would go through in the summer.
The La Liga side are reluctant to lose Gomez, who has contributed nine goals this season, this month as they battle to avoid relegation from the Spanish top flight but are prepared to arrange a transfer that would become effective in the summer.
Gomez has been with Celta since 2017 and was also part of the Uruguay team that travelled to the World Cup in Russia last summer.
