With ten matches remaining, Wolverhampton Wanderers sit 19th in the Premier League table.
If the Molineux-based club are to survive in the top flight for another year, winger Matt Jarvis is viewed as one of the players that could make a difference to their cause.
Sports Mole caught up with the 25-year-old to talk this season's relegation battle and his chances of earning a recall to the England squad.
Now there are ten games remaining, how confident are you that there is enough quality in the Wolverhampton Wanderers squad to secure your Premier League status for next season?
"I've think we've shown over the past two years that we've got the strength in depth in the squad to get ourselves out. Hopefully we can all call on that experience to get ourselves out of trouble this time around."
On paper, your final few fixtures, which includes Manchester United this weekend, look tough. What impact will that have on your survival chances?
"Of course it is tough, which isn't ideal. I know it was last season but we beat the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City and clubs like that. We're hoping to do the same this year. We'll keep plugging away to get the club out of trouble."
The likes of Roger Johnson and Stephen Ward recently insisted that the players should take a lot of the responsibility for Mick McCarthy's sacking. Is that a fair thing to say?
"I think when a team is struggling and the manager gets sacked the players do have a responsibility because we're the ones on the pitch at the end of the day."
The club was linked with the likes of Steve Bruce and Alan Curbishley as a replacement for McCarthy. However, assistant Terry Connor has been handed the job. How has the squad reacted to Connor's appointment?
"Very positively. We all know TC so that was a good start and he obviously knows us, which is the best thing about it. He's worked extremely hard on the training pitch and everybody is behind him. We all hope that it works out between now and the end of the season."
Has he changed much? For example training sessions and tactics?
"He's put his own bits on what he wants to do. The shape of the team has changed and there is a different style of training so he's changed things around from when Mick McCarthy was in charge. It has been very enjoyable and everyone has been working extremely hard to make it as positive an appointment as everyone wants it to be."
Do you believe that Connor's appointment has given you a better chance of surviving in the Premier League?
"Whenever someone else comes in there is always a rally round because everyone wants a fresh start and wants to be picked in the team. It keeps everyone on their toes and hopefully it has given us a boost in the right direction."
In recent weeks the club's supporters have been heard voicing their displeasure, including a protest against the board last weekend. Do you understand their frustration?
"Obviously the results haven't been as good as we would all like but I think that they can appreciate that we are all trying our best. We are working as hard as possible to get us out of the position that we are in."
Some pundits believe that Wolves have played better away from home this season. Would home performances improve if there was a more positive atmosphere at Molineux?
"They are great fans and they do get behind the team. Hopefully they will keep doing that from now until the end of the season. It would great if they could be like the 12th man for us."
On a personal level, your form last season grabbed many headlines. How would you rate your performances this time around?
"I feel like I've played well. I'm in good form and have managed to get a few goals in recent weeks. I'm still putting in a lot of crosses and making chances for the strikers. I feel like I'm in good form and hopefully that will continue until the end of the season."
A lot of those crosses you spoke of have been met by the head of Steven Fletcher, who has more headed goals this season than any other player in the division. What it is like playing in the same side as the him?
"He's got a great scoring record. As a wide man you look to put the ball in a great area and when you've got someone that's going to win it in the air, it's fantastic for a winger to just think 'I can stand it up and know someone is going to head it in', which he has been doing."
Just over a year ago you made your debut for England against Ghana. How disappointed are you not have received a second chance for the Three Lions?
"Obviously I've got to concentrate on my own game and make sure I'm playing well. It's up to whoever is in charge to pick the team. I'd be delighted if I do get called up again because it's every person's dream. I want to be back in there, of course I do. Hopefully if I keep playing well I will get picked again."
There are still plenty of points to play for this season, but should Wolves suffer relegation, would it be fair to say that you would need to be a Premier League player to force your way back into the international scene?
"As you said there are still ten games to go this season. That is what everyone is thinking about and aiming towards for now. So hopefully we can get the right results and still be a Premier League club next season."
