Northampton Saints claim important win at Bath

Two first-half tries help Northampton Saints to an important top-of-the-table win away at Bath.

Northampton Saints have stretched their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership after beating second-placed Bath 21-13.

Bath made a blistering start as they scored a second minute try, when centre Kyle Eastmond broke forward towards the try line.

Two phases later, winger Olly Woodburn touched the ball down in the corner, although he almost lost it as he spilled the final pass, but the ball was deemed to have gone backwards.

The Saints responded 25 minutes later, when full-back James Wilson latched on to the end of a neat team move to score their first try.

Northampton sensed a change in momentum, and they capitalised in style as hooker Mike Haywood cut inside a Bath defender to slide over from close range.

Northampton added two further penalties to stretch their lead, and Bath couldn't turn their late pressure into anything meaningful on the scoreboard.

The win moves Northampton nine points clear at the top of the table.
