Andy Murray looking to draw upon experience to overcome Nick Kyrgios

Andy Murray admits that taking on younger opponents at the Australian Open "feels a bit different" having so often faced more experienced players in the past.

British number one Andy Murray has insisted that he can put his experience to good use when he comes up against Nick Kyrgios in the last eight of the Australian Open.

The sixth seed overcame Wimbledon conqueror Grigor Dimitrov in four sets to advance through in Melbourne, paving the way for a meeting with home favourite Kyrgios tomorrow morning.

Murray is confident that he can now use the age difference to good effect in his much-anticipated quarter-final tie in order to build upon his three previous final appearances in this tournament.

"On Sunday I beat Grigor Dimitrov, who everyone has talked of as being a future Grand Slam champion; today I play Nick who everyone in Australia is hoping will win a major sooner rather than later," he told The Age.

"I guess you could see me as part of the older generation trying to stop the young ones from taking over but I haven't really thought about it like that. I don't feel old. Yet. Even so, there's more matches against younger players in latter stages of these events now.

"It feels a bit different, the pressure is a bit different: my experience is something I can draw upon now. When I was playing in the last stages of these events a few years ago, I was playing against guys who had way more experience than me, with obviously Rafa, Novak and Roger. It's a good position to be in to have a little bit more experience."

The last-eight showdown is scheduled to take place at around 8am GMT on Tuesday morning.
