Fernando Verdasco is into the third round of the Australian Open after a straight-sets victory over Xavier Malisse.
The Spaniard came flying out of the traps, dominating play from the baseline with his forehand and took the opening set 6-1.
Malisse worked hard in the second set, using all his experience to stay with the number 22 seed. It wasn't enough though, as Verdasco got the break he needed midway through the set and eventually won it 6-4.
Verdasco started confidently in the third set, and although Malisse continued to make him work, he opened a 5-2 lead.
The Belgian did open up two break-point opportunities at 15-40, but Verdasco powered through thanks to his serve and took the final set 6-2.
Kevin Anderson awaits Verdasco in round three.
