Stanislas Wawrinka boosts Switzerland's lead in Davis Cup semi-final

Stanislas Wawrinka puts Switzerland 2-0 up in the Davis Cup semi-finals against Italy by beating Fabio Fognini in straight sets.

Stanislas Wawrinka has given Switzerland a 2-0 cushion over Italy in the Davis Cup semi-finals by beating Fabio Fognini 6-2 6-3 6-2 in the second rubber of the day.

The Australian Open champion took the first break point of the game in the opening set and shortly earned another break to take a one-set lead in Geneva.

Wawrinka continued his dominance on the court in the second set by halting Fognini's serve, but the Italian broke back instantly to keep himself in contention.

Fognini squandered a break point in the seventh game, and Wawrinka punished him as a result by breaking his opponent's serve immediately and taking a two-set lead.

The 29-year-old went from strength to strength by earning a break point at the first time of asking in the third set, which kept the momentum swinging in his way as he wrapped up the match.

Switzerland now have a commanding lead after Roger Federer secured a straight-sets win over Simone Bolelli earlier today.
