Roof considered for Number One Court

Wimbledon's Number One Court could be fitted with a roof, according to the chairman of the All England Club.

Wimbledon's Number One Court could be fitted with a roof, according to chairman Philip Brook.

Brook was addressing members of the Lawn Tennis Writers' Association about the All England Club's next development project, Wimbledon 2020.

"A roof for Number One Court has to be part of our thinking," he said.

"When the new Number One Court was built it was built roof-ready, physically able to take a structure.

"It would give a second court for broadcasting live tennis, a second group of happy customers, and more certainty about completing the tournament if you get bad weather in the second week."

Centre Court was fitted with a roof in 2009.
