Petra Kvitova reaches Wuhan Open quarter-finals

Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is through to the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open thanks to a 6-3 2-6 6-4 victory over fellow Czech Karolina Pliskova.

Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has reached the quarter-finals of the Wuhan Open with a three-set victory over fellow Czech Karolina Pliskova.

Kvitova moved quickly into a 3-0 lead at the start of the opening set before going on to close it out 6-3 with minimal fuss.

However, Pliskova, who recently won the Korea Open, fought back emphatically in the second as two breaks of serve saw her clinch it 6-2.

Both players dropped serve at the start of a cagey deciding set, but a decisive second break for Kvitova allowed the two-time Grand Slam champion to secure the victory 6-3 2-6 6-4.
