Andy Murray continues to boost his chances of securing a spot in the ATP World Tour Finals in London by grabbing a 6-2 6-4 victory over Fabio Fognini to reach the quarter-finals of the Valencia Open.
The Scotsman started strongly with a double break on the Spanish court, which was enough to secure a one-set lead as Fognini failed to create a break point.
Games went by the way of serve at the start of the second set, but Murray's persistence paid off as he broke his opponent's serve to keep himself in control of the contest.
One break was all that was needed for Murray to wrap up the contest and set up a final-eight clash against Kevin Anderson.
