Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week's Rogers Cup in Toronto, the tournament has announced.
The world number three has been forced to pull out as he recovers from the knee injury that kept him out of the London Olympics.
"Coming to Toronto is always one of the highlights of my season so I'm very disappointed that I can't play there this year," Nadal told the tournament's official website.
"I was planning on coming to Toronto and did everything I could to be ready but I still need some more time to recover."
It is the first time in eight years that the Spaniard has missed the competition.
